Welcome to the American Farm Bureau Convention. We are providing this guide as a resource to help you plan your coverage.
Because schedules and events are subject to change and many key events happen simultaneously, registered media will receive emails on Sunday and Monday briefly recapping the day’s events, and previewing the upcoming day’s highlights. For up-to-date information on the convention schedule, download our conference app – instructions are listed below. Please note, events for media only will not be listed in the app.
The American Farm Bureau Federation’s Communications Team will provide a full rangerange of media services during the convention, from news releases to interview assistance. Our convention features a number of concurrent events and our comprehensive news operation is designed to help you cover everything. Bring your cameras, laptops and audio recorders, plug in and we will help with the rest.
The AFBF Communications & Public Policy Team HQ, media workroom and news conference room will be located in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center from Friday, Jan. 24, through Tuesday, Jan. 28. Most of the newsworthy action will take place beginning on Sunday and will conclude after Tuesday’s voting delegate session.
Note: All times listed in this media guide are Central Time; rooms are in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center unless otherwise noted.
The news conference and media availability will take place in 221A.
Sunday, Jan. 26 – 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 28 – One hour after the voting delegate session concludes
Official media workroom hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Sunday through Tuesday from 7 a.m. until one-half hour after closing events. If you have special deadlines, please don’t hesitate to ask a member of the AFBF Communications staff for assistance.
Media facilities are open to members of the working media and state Farm Bureau Communications staff with approved credentials only. Be sure to wear your media credentials at all times.
Pick up your media credentials in the main lobby, outside Hall 3. Look for the “Media Registration” sign along the registration tables. Registration hours are as follows:
Pick up a hard copy of the program onsite at registration or download there. Includes maps of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, schedule of events and more.
So that attendees will have unobstructed views of the stage during the general sessions, there will be designated seating for state Farm Bureau staff and photographers with media credentials. This reserved seating offers tables and power supplies to assist your reporting. Please utilize the reserved seating if you’d like it to be available at future conventions. Our goal is to avoid a high vacancy rate in this premier seating. If you need assistance finding the media seating area, please reach out to AFBF staff.
Pool photos will be available for general sessions. See below.
Official AFBF photographers for the general sessions will have limited access to the center stage area, and AFBF will provide “pool” photographs for state Farm Bureau and news media use shortly after the close of each general session at http://photos.fb.org.
Selected workshops, Cultivation Center Stage events and special event photos will be organized by event in collections at http://photos.fb.org. Note: only select events will offer pool photos. Feel free to check with AFBF communications staff if you would like photos of a specific event and aren’t sure if it will be covered.
Pool video will be available via Dropbox.
All registered media will have access to the voting delegate session on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Please wear your media credentials in order to access the delegate session.
Please note, all interviews conducted during the delegate session will need to take place outside the meeting room to keep noise to a minimum. If you would like help identifying a quiet place to conduct interviews, please reach out to Mike Tomko or Bailey Corwine (contact info below).
AFBF’s Mike Tomko (miket@fb.org, 410-446-8829) and Bailey Corwine (baileyc@fb.org, 785-409-2050) will be available to assist you with specific media requests. Need an interview with a member of the AFBF staff or help chasing down some background information? Just let Mike or Bailey know.
The Soy Checkoff will host an invitation-only media reception on Sunday, Jan. 26, in Presido ABC of the Grand Hyatt San Antonio, beginning at 6 p.m.
