A bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act, expected on the House floor this week, has the backing of farmers and ranchers. In addition to repealing the ACA, the American Health Care Act of 2017 (H.R. 1628) eliminates penalties on employers that fail to purchase health insurance for their workers and does away with penalties for individuals who do not purchase health insurance.
Farmers and ranchers believe that health care is primarily the responsibility of individuals. We support repeal of mandates that require individuals to purchase insurance and employers to cover their employees. Instead, we support a system that incentivizes people to plan for their health care needs and provides for those who are unable to pay for health care themselves.
American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall in a letter to House members
The measure also repeals the Health Insurance Tax, guarantees coverage for pre-existing conditions and expands tax incentives for health savings accounts.
