A once-abandoned dog in Elizabethtown is now in the running of a national competition.

Kentucky Farm Bureau announced Tuesday that Daisy was selected as one of five finalists across the nation for the Peoples Choice Pup award in the American Farm Bureau Federation's 2024 Farm Dog of the Year Competition.

Daisy, a mix of several breeds, was entered by Shelby and Lora Ennis of Elizabethtown, the couple that rescued her.

The couple recognized something special in Daisy, sharing a couple of anecdotes about why she has come to informally be known as "Daisy the Rescuer."

When Lora had a hard fall at home, Daisy alerted Shelby of the accident. Luckily, Lora wasn't injured too badly, but the couple quickly realized there was something special about their rescue.

“When Lora came home from the hospital, she was so weak and stayed sitting in her chair for the next two days, but Daisy was extremely quiet around her,” Shelby said. “She apparently understood what was going on and that Lora needed to rest.”
