AFBF Economist Veronica Nigh was quoted in a Washington Post article about retail egg prices. The article included highlights of AFBF’s just-released spring picnic marketbasket survey results, which revealed a 37 percent jump in retail egg prices compared to a year ago. “The price increase can be credited to an uptick in American and foreign demand for eggs while American production stayed level,” Nigh told the Post. She also noted: “The hike in foreign demand was exacerbated by a 2017 bird flu in South Korea, leading to a 663 percent increase in American egg exports there from 2016 to 2017.”
