The American Farm Bureau Federation and South Dakota Farm Bureau today presented Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) with AFBF’s Golden Plow award. The Golden Plow is the highest honor the organization gives to sitting members of Congress.
“Congressman Johnson has been an outstanding partner throughout his time in Washington, from working to find long-term solutions to supply chain disruptions to the leadership he has shown in working to expand markets and drive competition,” said AFBF President Zippy Duvall. “In a time when partisanship is the norm, rather than the exception, AFBF is pleased to honor someone who seeks out and delivers bipartisan solutions to some of the greatest challenges we face in rural America.”
South Dakota Farm Bureau nominated Rep. Johnson for his willingness to go against the grain to protect farmers and ranchers, his responsiveness to requests and his determination to fight for fiscal responsibility in Congress. Additionally, Rep. Johnson has taken a personal interest in the long-term success and vitality of South Dakota’s farm and ranch families, and regularly attends South Dakota Farm Bureau functions.
AFBF Vice President and SDFB President Scott VanderWal said, “Rep. Johnson has exemplified a level of commitment to agriculture throughout his entire career that can serve as an example for all legislative leaders. He clearly recognizes the impact the agricultural industry has on South Dakota, our country and the world. He’s a problem-solver who reaches across party lines to do what’s best for our nation’s farmers and ranchers, and agriculture as a whole. Rep. Johnson is a good friend to South Dakota Farm Bureau and is very deserving of this award.”
AFBF’s Golden Plow award recognizes members of Congress who exemplify agricultural leadership. Recipients are chosen for having a philosophy or record that demonstrates a commitment to sound agricultural policies supported by Farm Bureau, the private enterprise system, fiscal conservatism and reduced federal regulation of businesses and individuals.
